Chapter 17

The Spirit of God works to transform us into the image of Jesus.  This is especially prevalent while we behold God's glory.  Kauflin describes six ways that worshipping God can and should transform the way we live our lives.  Worshipping God should make us humble, secure, grateful, holy, loving, and mission-minded.  The phrase "Genuine worship is life changing" is true, and it should dramatically impact how we lead worship.  It gives worship a whole new meaning with its implications and a mission for us to carry out.  When we glorify God through worship, He works in us to his will.  While we worship, the joy is ours, but the glory is His.

I felt like I really needed this chapter right now during this time in my life.  As senioritis kicks in, motivation to work hard has truly left me, as life somehow got more stressful and crazy.  But this chapter reminded me that genuine worship is life changing.  I, myself, may not be able to lead people, but God works through me while I praise to transform others.  God intends to transform us into his image while we praise, too.  Leading genuine worship is so important and can be so impactful.  Now when I practice the drums every day, it's not a chore anymore.  I've got a mission to carry out.

    Nice post! I agree, senioritis is REALLY kicking in, and the slightest amount of work now seems like too much. But because worship has changed our lives, we incorporate it into our lives every day. Because we experience for ourselves how genuine and impactful worship is, we should strive to help others view it the same way.

    I really enjoyed how you said that practicing is a mission to carry out God's glory. That is so motoivating because I relate to you about thinking that practicing is a chore. It can be hard sometimes and frustrating but we should remember who we are playing for and that should be enough motivation for us. Nice job!

    I feel for the senioritis since it is really hitting hard because we only have one semester left and that all this time seems extended. But we have slowly changed our way of life with this class and now playing music is more of a thing I want to do. Very good job.

    It seems like this cloud of procrastination has set over everyone lately, especially seniors. It's good that you still want to try your best especially on the last stretch, it will really affect the student body when you try your best. I'm glad that you see practicing as a mission instead of a necessity, it will definitely help the determination you have to improve.

Worship Matters Chapter 11

Worship and God's word are not separate entities.  They are one.  Every meeting should be characterized by the Spirit's presence and God's word.  The spirit is what inspired God's word, so we should incorporate it into our worship.  We can do this by treasuring, singing, reading, showing and praying God's word.  When we treasure God's word, other people will know it.  Lyrics matter more than the tunes, so we should understand the lyrics we are singing to convey the word more.  Lastly we should obviously read it in order to show it and pray it. Being raised as Christians, it feels sometimes that reading the word has become a chore.  When chapel speakers throw lines of verse on the screen and start reading it, I unfortunately feel my eyes glaze over, zoning out to the max.  It really shouldn't be this way, and I know it.  In order to be a true worship band, we should exude the Word too.  Read it, pray it, sing it, and show it.

Chapter 14

    One of the greatest challenges a worship leader can face is trying to lead an unaffected and disinterested crowd.  There are three ways not to do while trying to lead this audience.  First, we should not demand that people worship God .  Second, we should not manipulate people into worshipping through things like insincere emotion or mysticism.  Third, we shouldn't make the audience feel guilty.  If the people are not motivated to worship, it is not the worship team's fault.  It is up to the audience themselves.  We cannot force and motivate the crowd to worship, but we can make it easier for them to.  Leading by example is important.  Singing along when possible and not seeming like we are absorbed into the music can be helpful.      The student body is hard to motivate to worship unless we play their favorite songs.  But it is not up to us to make them worship.  It's only up to God to lift people...
