One of the greatest challenges a worship leader can face is trying to lead an unaffected and disinterested crowd. There are three ways not to do while trying to lead this audience. First, we should not demand that people worship God . Second, we should not manipulate people into worshipping through things like insincere emotion or mysticism. Third, we shouldn't make the audience feel guilty. If the people are not motivated to worship, it is not the worship team's fault. It is up to the audience themselves. We cannot force and motivate the crowd to worship, but we can make it easier for them to. Leading by example is important. Singing along when possible and not seeming like we are absorbed into the music can be helpful.

I really like your honesty in this post. I definitely try too hard to make the audience worship sometimes. One of the things all worship leaders should work on is making sure no manipulation is used to achieve emotional worship. Instead, we should all just give it up to God.
ReplyDeleteIt can be hard motivating the student body if it isn't one of the more popular songs or a song they're familiar with, but I feel like some of the newer songs we performed got positive feedback. It really is up to God with how everyone will react, either good or bad. As long as we keep doing our best when we perform I know it's possible to motivate the student body.
ReplyDeleteI like how you wrote this post. You made it into simple steps and I think they are very useful. I also agree that it can be disheartening when a crowd doesn't react to our music the way we want, but we should keep on playing because we are playing for God.
ReplyDeleteI like how honest and real you were with this. I feel like being real and vunerable actually is the best way to connect with others. Instead of faking it and trying to force energy on people you let God take the wheel.
